Summer Learning Journey!

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY!!

How would I feel having 7 or 9 brothers or sisters.

I wouldn't like having seven or nine brothers and sisters because it will be way too loud, and messy. I would probably have to share a room with people.

Kiwi Kapers Concert

Kiwi Kapers Concert

On the Wednesday 22nd of November.  Because the year 6s were at camp the year 5s went on a trip to the Kiwi Kapers Concert.
Some classes from Pt England school and other schools went to see the Kiwi Kapers too. The was Concert at the Aotea Centre.

There were different kinds of instruments but my favourite was the Cello because it was big and made a cool sound. There were was lots of other instruments. Like the Double bass, Wood wind, Strings, Trumpet, drums and more.

The music was very nice I was about to go to sleep. It was kind of weird because they went from high notes to low notes.

The thing I liked the most was we saw lots of cool things with hula-hoops and the acting. When we left I was very tired. The bus was very hot and I was bored. It was nearly home time.

Athletics Day

On Friday the 10th of November Pt England school had an athletics day on the school field. The year 5's and up did High jump, Sprints, Relays, Volleyball, Target Ball, Dodge-ball, Tug - o - War, Javelin, Soft ball throw, Discus, and Shot put.

My team leader was Mr Vogt. I was kinda annoyed because there was only one person in my team. Our first activity was Shot put Mr Wisemen was leading Shot put. But because I was late I only had one go. Then our second activity was Tug - o - war. That was my favourite because people helped us and Mr E was the leader. It was also funny because we bet the teachers.

Our third activity was High jump Ms King was the leader. I was excited because I like to jump high too but I didn’t come anything.

Our fourth activity was Sprints I was very nervous because I am not good at sprinting Mr Burt was the leader of Sprinting like always. But I didn’t come a place again. Then we did lots more activity's.

Julies Race

Free photo: Dogs, Sled, Team, Dogsled, Teamwork - Free Image on ...

he dogsled race was about to begin. Julie’s team of dogs was lined up at the starting gate. Julie stood behind them. The air was so cold that she could see her breath. Other teams were lined up, too, and the dogs were excited. Julie kept her eyes on the clock. At exactly ten o’clock, she and the other racers yelled, "Mush!" The dogs knew that meant "Go!" They leapt forward and the race began!

Julie had trained months for this race, and she hoped she and her dogs would win. Hour after hour, day after day, Julie’s dogs pulled the sled in order to get in shape for the race.

Now, they ran over snowy hills and down into frozen valleys. They stopped only to rest and eat. They wanted to stay ahead of the other teams. The racers had to go a thousand miles across Alaska. Alaska is one of the coldest places on Earth. The dogs’ thick fur coats helped keep them warm in the cold wind and weather. In many places along the route, the snow was deep. Pieces of ice were as sharp as a knife. The ice could cut the dogs’ feet. To keep that from happening, Julie had put special booties on their feet.

At first, the dogs seemed to pull the sled very slowly. They were still getting used to the race. But on the third day out, they began to pull more quickly. They worked as a team and passed many of the other racers. Once, one of the sled’s runners slid into a hole and broke. Julie could have given up then, but she didn't. She fixed it and they kept going.

When they finally reached the finish line, they found out that they had come in first place! It was a great day for Julie and her dogs.
